As we recently announced in "WYMeditor", http://onlinegroups.net/r/topic/2kh640cxAvbjrGnRLP1EPN a site administrator can now edit the text on your site home page, and add headings, lists, links and even graphics. There is an example of what you can do with the site home page on our demo site. http://demosite.onlinegroups.net/ Since we first released this, we've fixed one or two problems, and we're now fairly happy that it works. Please log in to your site, try it out, and let us know your feedback. By the way, if you don't know how to find your site, have a look on this list. http://onlinegroups.net/products/sites/all_sites/
A reminder to site administrators that you can edit the text on your site's home page. To do this, log in and visit your site's home page, where you will now see a link to the "edit site introduction" feature, as well as a list of other things that you can do as site administrator. (While improving the site administration links on the home page today, we found, and fixed, a link was rather broken — my apologies for that). Using the "edit site introduction" feature, you can add headings, paragraphs, lists, links, and images to your site home page. There is an example of this on our Demo site. http://demosite.onlinegroups.net/ Until today, many site home pages were blank, unless the site administrator had added a site intro. Today, we added the following text to all sites with blank home pages, so that vistors to the sites can find out something, even if it is just a little, about the site. Welcome to this online groups site. This site can be used to create public, private or secret online groups. Online groups are like a list server and a message board with file-sharing and chat. When people join groups and post to them, those posts will appear on this page (if the messages in those groups are visible to the public, or to whoever is logged in). This site was created using the service provided by OnlineGroups.Net. From today, all new sites will have this default text on the home page. If your site has no visible posts, for example because all your groups are private or secret, the site introduction will flow across the full width of the home page. This provides a good opportunity to add some text that explains your site to new visitors.
A site administrator has asked me how to add an image to the homepage.
Here's a quick guide.
As a site administrator, you can add an image to your site home page
using the "Change Site Introduction Text" feature. To access this, take
the following steps.
Log in to your site.
Navigate to your site home page.
In the "Site Administrator Only" section,
at the bottom of the left column on the
home page, choose "Start Groups and Customize
Your Site".
You will now be on the "Administer Site" page.
From there, choose "Change the Introduction".
You will now be on the "Change Site Introduction
Text" page, see the first screen shot example,
below.
Using the editor on the "Change Site Introduction Text" page, you can
add text, headings, links and images to your site home page. The image
that you add, however must already be on the web somewhere. If the image
that you want to use it not already on the web somewhere, you could post
it to a public online group on your site.
To add an image, take the following steps.
Navigate to the position in your site introduction
where you want the image to appear.
Click the "image" button on the editor toolbar.
(See the second screenshot, below.)
In the dialog box that appears, enter a link
to the image, a title for the image, and
alternative text to appear when the image
can not be displayed.
(See the third screenshot, below.)
Click "Submit" in the dialog box, and then
"Change" on the site intro editor.
View your site home page, to check how
your image appears.
Any questions, post them up.
